Please Note: Our blades are designed to fit Lie-Nielsen tools, not other makers'.
Replacement blade for our No. 71 Large Router Plane.
Note: Blade does not work in vintage Stanley planes.
The blade comes ready to use. Additional honing will increase performance.
First, hone the bottom of the blade. Make several passes along a waterstone until a slight burr is formed along the cutting edge.
Then flip the blade over and make a few light passes along the beveled face to remove the burr.
For inlay work using our Small Router Planes, we offer a 3/32" square tipped blade, and 1/4" and 3/32" pointed blades. An optional Blade Adapter allows you to use Small Router Planes blades in the Large Router Planes.
The blade is A2 tool steel, hardened and tempered to Rockwell 60-62. Our heat treating technique ensures that the blade will take and hold a very fine edge for a long time.
Blades should be kept lightly oiled or waxed to prevent rust. We recommend Jojoba Oil, a plant based oil product that is non-toxic, odor-free and easy to use. Also, in our shop, we use a fine abrasive handblock to remove any light surface oxide from tool bodies and blades. Jojoba Oil and abrasive handblocks are available from us.
